 2011 PROGRAM THEMES
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Synergy is the concept that helps us understand why sometimes one plus one can equal more than two. In a business context, it occurs when two or more people combine to achieve a greater result than could occur as a result of their individual efforts or effects.
Within the EA and Executive relationship, Synergy should be the ultimate goal for your working partnership as it is in this phase that your unique team of two can become most successful.
At our 2010 conferences in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane we discussed the concept of Strategic Value at considerable length, trying to uncover exactly what EAs and PAs should be doing to ensure that they are constantly adding strategic value to their businesses within everything they do.
The numerous Executives who spoke at these events were exceptionally clear on one main point as it relates to that theme; namely that only when the relationship between an Assistant and the Executive becomes one of a true partnership can a harmonious and synergistic relationship occur and both parties add the most value.
As a consequence, our focus for our 2011 events is going to be around this notion of partnership in both theory and practice as we investigate the nature and structure of the EA / Executive relationship and try and uncover the exact nature of such a partnership that will achieve Synergy.
Since the inception of this series of conferences we have been on a journey of discovery along with our delegates. We have examined why EAs and PAs must become multi faceted and have knowledge and skills around many technical business and business relationship concepts if they are to adequately support modern Executives and modern businesses.
We investigated the unique personal strengths and attributes a good EA must have if they are to thrive in such a unique and at times highly volatile and stressful environment.
From here we examined the concepts of identity and individual control as we tried to uncover the journey that takes an assistant from being very much dependent on their executive for guidance and direction to one who is self motivating, self guiding and self starting.
The evolution from here was to examine how EAs and PAs can take all their knowledge and skills and best put these to use in order to deliver greater long term and strategic value to their businesses and Executives.

‘Partnering with your Executive to achieve greater Synergy' is the latest evolution of these concepts and themes. The event will continue to focus on business skills and business acumen, to provide you with greater understanding around ‘you' and how you work with others to give you the so called ‘soft-skills' you need to thrive, but our main objective will be to gain an understanding of the nature of a true partnership and how this can be achieved.
Another concept that emanated from our 2010 series of events and has been widely discussed in our Chat Room relates to the concept of professionalism and professional standing and respect.
The sign of the utmost professional is not so much the type of job they do, rather how they do that job. Ultimately it is a state of mind.
Our goal has always been to encourage all members to strive to act with professionalism and to have the knowledge, skills, business acumen and personal skills to enable them to do so.
But as we have seen from our conferences, senior Executives are now looking for EAs and PAs to partner with them to help them achieve all the goals they have for their businesses and ideally to help them achieve greater synergistic outcomes. And they are prepared to reward assistants like this similarly to any other senior manager based on the benefits they add to them and the business.
You can be one of these types of EA but it is up to you. Ultimately you have to want to take up the challenge to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding and to achieve the state of mind that will make you the sought after professional senior Executives are wanting. If you are this type of EA or PA then join our journey and we will help take you there. Come along to this conference and take new steps towards greater professionalism and ultimately a more synergistic partnership with your Executive.
